DTN Average Weekly DDG Price Pushes Higher
DTN's weekly average spot price for domestic distillers dried grains is
higher versus one week ago.

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) -- The average DTN spot price for domestic distillers
dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended Sept. 24 was
$194 per short ton on average, up $9 versus one week ago. Prices pushed higher
this week due in part to ethanol plant Fall maintenance taking place, according
to merchandisers. The EIA reported lower plant production last week, and it was
the lowest in four months.
DDG prices were higher on average again, while the cash corn price was
higher versus one week ago. The DTN National Average Corn Index was up 2 cents
per bushel, while soybean meal prices were higher, up $1.10 per short ton
versus one week ago. Continued strength in soybean meal also adds to higher DDG
prices.
Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative
to corn for the week ended Sep 24 was 1.030%. The value of DDG relative to
soybean meal was 52.09% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $7.19
compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $7.84.
U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council in its weekly distillers dried grains
with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report showed October prices as of
Sept. 24: CIF NOLA barge price was up $14 at $290 metric ton (mt) versus one
week ago; FOB vessel Gulf price was up $17 at $304 mt; rail delivered PNW was
up $13 at $318; and rail delivered to California was up $7 at $306 mt.
The Energy Information Administration reported on Wednesday (9/23) that
overall ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.028 million bpd in
the week ending September 18, down 71,000 bpd week-on-week and 65,000 bpd, or
5.9% lower than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.127
million bpd was 23,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol
production averaged 962,000 bpd, down 78,000 bpd week-on-week and 70,000 bpd,
or 6.8% lower than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.07
million bpd was 24,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.
